{guest blogger: 74 lime lane – designs with an aussie flavour ~ that’s flavour with a “u”}

74LL_designwithanAussieflavour

Hi everyone, Kellie here, from 74 Lime Lane, guesting posting from the chilly confines of the southern hemisphere while Piper enjoys a summer vacation.

While Piper was away, I thought I would hijack her blog to highlight some of the great Australian talent that you can find at the click of your mouse. Piper is a huge fan of our sunburnt plains, so I’m sure she won’t mind.

Being at the other end of the world, so to speak, Aussie indie designers can often find it hard, making their way in the online marketplace. Currency, and shipping costs, for starters, are often against us, which is why I want to give some of my favourites a bit of a shout out across the seas.

[From left to right, starting in the top left: Lots of cute paper goodies by Helena at Little Mo and Friends; artworks and jewellery by Deb at Two Cheeky Monkeys; beautiful art by Belinda of gretchenmist; fantastic jewellery designs by Jess at Epheriell; make your bunting panels and hand screen-printed goodness by Nic at Yardage Design; lovely illustrations and goodies by Penny at Pocket Carnival]

This is by far a very small list. You can find more Australian designers and artists on madeit ~ a dedicated Australian handmade market place ~ and by searching for the DUST team on Etsy or at the DUST website. You can also see some Australian creatives I have featured in my weekly lime light section here.

morning everyone!  did you have a good weekend?  i’ve been so excited to share pictures with you from my friday night at the made in the 216 event!

made in the 216 is an annual event meant to showcase local, cleveland based designers.  it was started by the amazingly talented danielle deboe, owner of  my favorite shop in cleveland, room service.  this year they had over 60 local designers (and let me tell you, it was not easy to walk away without buying everything!

i did end up going a bit nuts with shopping (pillows & art & cards, oh my) - but i couldn’t help it – there were so many amazing indie artist designed products to choose from.  plus, they had a dj spinning tunes, drinks and the place was decked out to the nines!  (i absolutely loved the bikes hanging from the ceiling and the cool typography sign – danielle let me know that they created the sign themselves – just some stencils and paint!!)

unfortunately my photos don’t do the event justice, but it did give me a chance to do this week’s shake it up idea of taking in my surroundings in a different light…by viewing lots of things from above or close up!!

oh, btw, as if inside wasn’t enough fun…outside there was a funnel cake stand…notice there are no pictures of that…i was too busy eating it, mmm!!

{find + seek…australia}

aussie

i’ve been so excited to share with all of you the dream trip we took to australia last year.  (it actually was the inspiration for the name of this blog so i have to give props to it, right!).  i figured the one year anniversary of our trip was as good a time as any!

australia was one of the places i had always dreamed about visiting but never truly thought it could be reality.  it was like this far off fantasy world that can only be visited by winning the lottery or finding a worm hole!

luckily for us, our friends m & s wanted to have a destination wedding.  they each wrote a list of the top 5 places they would want to go….when they compared their lists, australia matched up as their #2 spot!  so lucky for us, they invited us along and after much discussion (can we all really do this?  how much money do we actually need to visit there?  will we have to sell our house to get there?), planning and months and months of saving, we all headed down under!

although the trip to get there is nothing to sneeze at (nothing makes you feel less human than traveling for 30 hours…the video we shot of ourselves on the trip going there could be used as blackmail!), it’s well worth it.  australia is absolutely gorgeous, the people are incredibly friendly and there’s so much to see & do we were only able to capture a smidgen of it.  we’re already planning (okay, dreaming of) our return trip!

i thought over the next 2 weeks i’d post here and there about some of our faves from australia…trying to keep it design related!  starting with cool etsy finds from all the places we visited in australia!

sydney, nsw;     rise + shine photo from bella luce photography
palm cove, queensland;    muddler from forest treasures+ handbag from paluma print
adelaide & kangaroo island, south australia;    button necklace from minski
ayers rock, northern territory;    wrap skirt from shop room studio

{find + seek…swings}

swing

i think i still have things i used to do as a kid on my mind.  well, actually, i still love going to the park and playing on the swings!!  remember trying to go as high as you could?  or jumping off the swing in the air?  (i gotta admit i pretty much sucked at that…i’d make sure the swing was low enough and just “hop” off!)

[cool etsy finds, clockwise from top left:  playground series no. 1 photo from lilacpop photography;  swing personalized stationery set from silhouette blue;  magnet set from pixie paper;  swing necklace from lisa hopkins design;  swinging birds zippered pouch from mishmash designs;   girl on a swing papercut art from tina tarnoff]

{slipcover your life – modern cross-stitch}

slipcover

i have to give a big shout out to erin over at the blog slipcover your life for opening her etsy store…she took the leap, woo hoo!!  i love that she’s taken something traditional like cross-stitch and made it fun + modern.  how cute is the too-long daschund?!  she sells them as a finished art piece or as a kit.  i’m thinking the kits would make a great mom’s day gift!

if you get a chance, pop over and check out slipcover your life’s stitchery!
