// c’est la vie

remember how i said my “paris sense” was tingling??  (this is similar to a “spidey sense”…but with less web slinging)  well, look at all these awesome paris inspired items i’ve come across since the paris pop-up shop started!  c’est la vie, indeed!

it’s hard to believe that a.) the paris shop is ending next week and b.) june is almost over…where is this summer going?  are you guys getting a chance to enjoy your summer?  i have yet to get my bike out & go for a ride…this will happen, this will happen (hoping this mantra will help)

next week i have a great wrap up of the paris shop planned – very interesting, we’ll leave it at that!  and i’ll have some teasers about where we’re “visiting” for the next pop-up shop!  until then, i thought i’d share a few things going on…

// is your internet penis too small?  very thought provoking (and come on, that’s a spit take worthy title!)

// can’t get enough of me?  well, you’re in luck!  ha!  hannah from sparrow & spark featured me in her “go be it” series and mallory from miss malaprop did an interview with me for her “girl crush” series

// this is a brilliant idea

// go on a picnic in the park  (my latest post for vianza)

[1. union jack clutch from french store upla;   2. seine saunter socks from mod cloth;  3. french clock from modamuse  4.  paris print from field trip;  5.  day in paris stamp set from ink + wit]

// the classics

i asked mariah if she would create a post on paris books…while she was researching, she found out that a crazy amount of classics are set in paris!  makes sense, right?!  the real question is…how many of these have you read??  (i can tick off 2!)

the post & pairing are inspired by shopkeep krista from urbanite jewelry – she’s one of those people who amaze you with what they’re able to do.  besides running her jewelry business, she started a monthly craft market for artists in her area.  yep, she’s inspiring.

so off we go on a literary journey with mariah…xo piper

Paris is full of classics  - classic architecture, classic style, classic art – but did you realize it was home to so many classic novels? It’s true! Lots of the classic bestsellers are based in Paris.

Here are my picks for the best classic novels that have ties to Paris:

  1. Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux : Far beneath the majesty and splendour of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protégée Christine Daaé is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.
  2. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo is an 1862 French novel by author Victor Hugo that is widely considered one of the greatest novels of the nineteenth century.is the story of ex-convict, Jean Valjean who becomes a force for good in the world, but cannot escape his dark past.
  3. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas:  When hot-blooded young d’Artagnan comes to Paris to seek his fortune, he finds himself challenged to a duel with not one, but three of the King’s Musketeers. But Athos, Porthos and Aramis are to become his greatest friends, and companions in dangerous adventure when he becomes embroiled in the intrigues of the Court and the beautiful, evil Lady de Winter.
  4. A Moveable Feast by Earnest Hemingway: Published posthumously in 1964, A Moveable Feast remains one of Ernest Hemingway’s most enduring works as he reminisces about his life in Paris in the 1920s and the literary figures he knew
  5. A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times in London and Paris, as economic and political unrest lead to the American and French Revolutions. A story of the courageous Sydney Carton, a man ready to give his life for a woman who will never be his.  With well over 200 million copies sold, it ranks among the most famous works in the history of fictional literature.

Have you read any of these?  Any favorites?   – Mariah

{rue magazine mention & update}

wine label tote bag

christmas came early for me – what a treat to see the wine label tote bag in the new rue magazine holiday issue!! (pg. 16)  i actually found out via a tweet from cailin of a white picket fence – gotta love social media, right?!  so it was a fun surprise!  and then whoo-ee…they quickly sold out!

but the good news is that i’m working with the artist to get them back in stock.  she should be sending them out to me on friday so i hope to have them back in stock by next week – hopefully in enough time for the holidays if you’re giving them for gifts!

in the meantime, i’ve got the matching print to the tote bag!  it’s a wine medley!

so i thought i’d compile a couple of my favorite gift guides out right now to help out with gift ideas. i stuck to ones that are in magazine form – but there are so many awesome gift ideas on blogs too – and i’ve said it before, i loves me a gift guide!!  (not sure why, maybe i’m related to santa claus :)

{what’s new in store!}

typography tote bag

have you ever wondered how i get things for the store?  well, have i got a story for you!  i came across this awesomely cool tote bag on not on the high street a couple of months ago & literally laughed out loud when i saw it. (you know i loves me a funny saying!)  so i immediately blogged about it and then couldn’t get it out of my mind (you know, that little voice that keeps nagging you…mine kept saying “must get bag for gifts”, “must get bag for gifts” – apparently, we have a lot of wine lovers to buy for!!  - that’s when i knew i had to have it for the store!)

smash cut to a few weeks ago, i emailed the funny gal behind the bag, U.K. artist sally beerworth, to see if i could get them for the store.  (this is after chuckling my way through her website – seriously, if you need a laugh, head there now!!)  she had yet to stock any stores in the U.S. so after a bit of back & forth to work things out, i was tickled that she agreed & that i’m now the first U.S. store to carry her work!!  woot woot!!

her company, the joy of ex foundation, has an equally hilarious motto…”we’re here to ensure that anyone going through a break up doesn’t end up snorkeling in vodka…or cake mix!”  she started writing to make herself laugh while she was going through a divorce – i’m always drawn to people who have a good sense of humor!

the moral is…it never hurts to ask! :)

psst…also new in the store…

striped makeup bagstriped lavendar sachets

{just unpacked!}

cool modern home accessories

i’m literally jumping up & down, squeaking with joy over these makeup bags & sachets!!  i worked with carol at yorktown road to have these created specially for one sydney road!!  i was on yorktown’s facebook page a month or so ago and noticed that she had created some striped bags.  well, if its got stripes, then i’m all over ‘em!!  so i contacted carol to see if i could have makeup bags & sachets created in a stripe pattern and i even got to pick out the colors!  (notice the yellow & grey OSR color scheme in the makeup bag??  yeppers, i’m keeping one of those!!)

this is my first time working with a designer to have something created for me and i couldn’t be happier!!  hope you guys love them as much as i do – because it’s not a problem for me to keep them all :)

they’ll be on the store site shortly!!
