//i swear i didn’t plan it!

you all know i’m an uber tennis fan, so how cool/awesome/perfect timing is it that the french open just started!

coincidence??  um, yes, actually!

i swear, i didn’t realize that i would have the paris pop-up shop going at the same time as the french open!  but do you ever notice how your mind picks up on these things?  ever since i launched the paris shop, no matter where i go or what i read, i keep seeing french sayings, words and paris images!!  i think the universe is trying to tell me something.

oh and guess what i did this weekend??  I DID IT!!  i actually made the star light royale cocktail i shared last week!!  (i’m ridiculously bad about actually trying and/or making these things – i think i just like the “idea” sometimes!)

we made up a pitcher for our friends and the word was that it was like “summer in a glass” (ok, i may have been the one to say that…doesn’t mean it’s not true though :) !

// star-gazing in your own backyard

one of my favorite things to do while traveling is to catch the sunrise & gaze at the stars. it’s always different, beautiful & completely zen! the best star-gazing for us happened to be on a cruise in the bahamas. it was nighttime & my husband & i wandered up to the top deck and discovered a SHOW of a LIFETIME. the sky was lit up with millions of stars & i think we ended up seeing at least 10 shooting stars. AMAZING. i can only imagine what star-gazing in PARIS would be like! until i get there, i’ll just have to make do with backyard star-gazing…easy & cheap!

and check out the new “meet the paris shopkeeps” section on the store site…you can learn more about the zhush - her shop’s etoile scarf inspired today’s post!

// paris travel log no.1

holy croissant, batman…what a fun-filled week this has been!!  thank YOU ALL for making the first week of this paris pop-up shop so exciting!  i’ve received so many sweet emails and tweets since it launched, and well, i’m kind of speechless by it! (is that possible for me?? :)  you all constantly boost me up – so doing something like this is my small way of paying that forward.

so on to our paris journey…i’m glad to see that the hot air balloon got us here safe & sound! (is that even a viable mode of transportation?) by the way, this is coming from someone who has

a.) never been in a hot air balloon &
b.) never been to paris!

so i’m going to live vicariously & share stories from others and their paris adventures, photos, and what i’d have on my itinerary if i was going!  plus it makes it kind of interesting & fun to create things based on my imagination & what i dream paris to be like (oh right…and the fact that there are millions of actual photos & videos of paris out there.  yes, i suppose that helps!)

so please keep sending those stories & photos – i want to share them throughout this paris shop.  speaking of photos…the amazing, gorgeous paris photos you see throughout the shop and right here are from my talented friend lillian – she was sweet enough to offer them to me (and let me play with them!).  check out her new photography blog here – and say hi!

happy friday everyone!  or “heureux tout le monde vendredi”!!

{bienvenue!!}

it’s here, it’s here!!  or should i say “c’est ici”!  the paris online pop-up shop is open!!  i had this idea…you know what, i think it was about a year ago!  anyways i had this idea to do bi-monthly online pop-up shops (not that that’s anything new) but i envisioned them as city based so we could “travel” along with it.  so let’s just say that it took along time to come to fruition but i couldn’t be happier with it!  i’m thrilled to have these amazing artists & shops onboard – and their excitement for the shop was exactly what i was hoping for!  i want these to be special events – both for you guys as customers & readers but also for the artists and shops participating.

as you guys know, i’m incredibly passionate about getting the word out about the fantastic design that’s out there.  there are so many cool boutiques, online retail shops & etsy artists – i’m excited to be sharing them with you all!!

i’ve got LOTS of fun things in store during the next weeks of this PARIS shop – including daily french lessons on twitter & fb (and yes, this is my attempt to remember my french from school!!)

and i could use your help….have any of you been to paris??  any stories or photos you’d like to share?  or are you planning a trip?  please email me at info@onesydneyroad.com – i would love to get some guest posts, etc!!

{traveling in the moment}

i’ve got travel on my mind again – probably since i’m planning a trip to portland – it’s been on my list of “places to visit before i die” for awhile now so i’m excited to check it out!! i’m a planner when it comes to traveling – i like to get an idea of the places i’d want to see (hello, cool boutique shopping!!). but beyond that, i try to stay open to the unknown…just wandering around and coming across places on my own or by talking to locals. those, more often than not, end up being my favorite moments when traveling! and trust me when i say that traveling is one of the only times i can actually STAY in the moment! (how do i bring that feeling back as a souvenir??)

even when it’s a trip for business (the trip to portland is for a conference), i find that enjoying the moment, not having every second planned out like clark griswald (remember his clipboard schedule??), makes it much more fun, less stressful and usually gives me a story to share! or ends with finding the BEST “insert cafe/park/view here”!

has anyone been to portland? any recommendations for places i need to see or visit?

{alt summit or a better title…”blog class reunion”!}

phew, i am late on this alt summit recap!  seriously, i’m in awe of the people that can post right away about alt – it takes me like a week to just get caught up from traveling (read:  catching up on sleep!)  but better late than never, right?!

alt is an experience – somehow i end up inspired & exhausted all at the same time!  but this year was extra special for 2 reasons…1) i was there as a speaker and 2) it was basically a chance to see all the bloggy friends i met last year (this really is the best part!  it’s like a high school reunion that you actually want to attend!)  and okay, let’s be honest, the unnamed 3rd reason is to collect kick ass business cards – man, people at alt are CREATIVE!!

so i just wanted to share some of my favorite quotes, takeaways, and moments from alt with you all…

next week, i’ll do a recap on my panel “from blog to shop” – lots of great info especially for those of you wanting to open your own etsy/big cartel store or retail store!

{alt summit!}

alt summit recap

it’s hard to believe that there’s only one week left until we converge on salt lake city for the annual alt summit design conference!!  last year was A-M-AZING…tons of ideas & inspiration and the best part was getting to actually meet bloggy friends in person!  (you can read last year’s alt summit recap here)

and it’s even more exciting for me this year because i’ll be speaking at alt this year on the panel “from blog to shop”!

um, how perfect is that for me – trust me, i have lots to say on the subject!  also speaking on this panel are 2 talented, inspiring women who i’ve had the pleasure of chatting with & planning our panel.  (susan from freshly picked & amy from little alouette )  i can’t wait to share this topic with you!

who’s going to alt this year?  what are you most excited for?  (don’t worry…if you’re not going this year, i’ll make sure to recap and share the inspiration from the trip!!)

{and we’re home!}

happy friday everyone!  can you believe that next weekend is christmas??  i’ve been a busy bee playing santa and shipping out lots of boxes & gifts – the only downside to this is that i’m pretty sure i’ve wasted about 2/3 of my life waiting in line at the post office. (and i know, i know, i need to get the post office to come to my house – apparently they’ll do that!)

i can’t help but be super excited about this week’s city guide.  marcus & i were laughing that there’s something anti-climatic about ending the 60 days of wanderlust tour in cleveland (i mean, come on, who wouldn’t schedule a trip to london, cape town and the cleve!! :)  but honestly cleveland’s got some cool – and those of us that live here are unabashedly die hard clevelanders – we love our city!

so to have brian from grey cardigan & charity from i heart cleveland sharing their fave spots in our hometown is a treat!  grey cardigan is one my favorite artists out there – his work just fits me!  it’s witty, colorful & dapper!   and then charity writes THE blog to go to for all things cleveland – she shows all the amazing things cleveland has to offer!  and i just adore the line of cards her studio chartreuse just released…check ‘em out here!

make sure to check out their guides – i think you’ll be surprised!  and i thought i’d add in with a few of my local gift picks including modern pixie jewelry <3<3!! (marcus got me a necklace from her last year for my birthday – i’m a fan!!)

next week, i’ll share my own fave spots in cleveland!  have a wonderful weekend everyone – enjoy all the holiday festivities!

{fave things this week}

happy friday – woo hoo!!  i don’t know about you, but i’m still in shock that next week is thanksgiving…wasn’t it just summer?did i miss fall?  while i’m busy trying to figure out the mystery of the missing fall, here are a few things that i wanted to share with you that had me smiling this week!  what made you smile this week?
