modern holiday decoration

i think i’ve mentioned this before that i’m not much of a traditional gal – but i do have a thing for traditions (and yes, i think there’s a difference between the two!!)  traditional to me, means following rules set by others.  traditions on the, other hand, feel much more open and individual.  i always find it fascinating to hear about others traditions especially during the holidays – every family, culture, country seems to have their own thing, their own tradition – and that’s what makes the holidays so beautiful.

besides my color theme tradition (notice the lovely green + white images?!), my favorite tradition in our family is the scavenger hunt we do to find your presents.  my hubby and i started this years ago with our gifts and it has since expanded to include our moms (this one also makes me miss my mom now – she just had such pure fun with this yet she was the absolute worst at guessing the clues! and seeing her & my mother-in-law try to figure the clues out together was always a riot – it always involved one mom needing glasses, one mom guessing the other mom’s clues, one mom getting distracted…in other words, joyful chaos!)

what holiday traditions do you have in your own family?
