{design crush – sara story design + hermes}

sarastory

i thought i’d share (yet another!) obsession of mine…hermes boxes used in design.  i came across them awhile ago in domino (where else, right!) and just loved how colorful and cool they looked stacked together (and bonus – they can store things!).

so, of course, someone with an obsession would own one of these fancy little boxes, right?  well, that would be a big, fat nope!  i can’t seem to track one down via the haunting grounds of ebay + craigslist – and it’s not like i can afford to shop hermes regularly (or, at all!).  because i can’t just have one lonely little box…it’s got to be a stack!  so, i’ll just have to continue oohing and ahhing over pictures like these!

sara story design creates such beautiful, modern and aesthetically pleasing rooms.  they just feel airy and bright and you know i absolutely love her use of the hermes boxes (grin)!  check out her full portfolio here.  (btw, love the “orange” print above with the boxes…brillant, right?!)

{red hot frames}

do you ever come across something and then you can’t get it out of your head?  that’s how i feel about this cool hallway designed by the always interesting steven gambrel (in the january/february issue of elle decor).  i’m a big fan of using groups of pictures with black frames…but when i saw this hallway…well, now i want to change out all my frames for that great pop of color.  i found some great options at pictureframes.com. if only it wouldn’t cost a fortune to have as many as in the photo!

{deadgood’s love collection}

deadgood

i absolutely “heart” british design company deadgood’s love collection.  they’ve made the heart detailing (they call them “love buttons”!) look so modern and fresh for such a traditionally romantic image.  and the grey wool fabric makes me want to curl up and get cozy…wouldn’t a bright red pillow look stunning on the chairs?!

{design crush – finola inger}

finolainger

i keep being drawn to the work of interior stylists…like i’ve said before, to me, it seems like such a dream job.  it’s one of those jobs that i wish i would have known about when i was little - who knew you could actually style things for a living!

which leads me to stylist finola inger…sigh…can i be her when i grow up??  the rooms and images she creates are so gorgeous, vibrant and modern yet completely soothing.

check out her portfolio for more of her stunning images.

{boutique hostels}

mamapicture5mamapicture3

who would’ve thought hostels could be so chic and modern?

mama shelter, located in paris, france, has taken staying at a hostel to a new level.  designed by philippe starck, each room looks so whimsical and inviting.  from the illuminated halloween masks substituting as bedside lamps (my husband would die over the chewbacca mask!!) to the random phrases located around the hostel and the modern designs, you know you’re in for a fun and unforgettable stay.  and somehow it’s completely affordable…if only the airfare was!!

ooh, and the best part…they have a communal kitchen that stocks nutella.  yep, now i’m completely sold!

{aster + sage}

wouldn’t these vibrant and colorful change purses by indie designer aster + sage brighten your day?  the only problem…deciding which one to get!

{propellor design}

light

happy friday!  the snow is starting to melt (woo-hoo!) and i have a nice, long weekend ahead of me.  remember to check back later for this week’s shake it up 2010 idea!

so how about a little light to start off the day?

this gorgeous, nature inspired pendant light comes from the creative minds at propellor design, a vancouver based design studio.  i love how they used a wind-downed branch collected from galiano island for the pull switch – brilliant and gorgeous!  here are some more of their cool pendant lights.

these colorful chopping boards from eskil design might actually make me want to cook!  although who am i kidding…it would be my husband using it.  but i can still enjoy looking at it!

{cocktail hour}

i’m one of those people that tends to only bring out the “good dishes” for holidays/important events…a habit i’ve been trying to break.  (but, i don’t know, it still seems funny to break out the china for dinner while catching up on my dvr’d shows on a wednesday night!!)

but these glasses from watts london are so completely fun and glamorous that i think i could use them all the time!
